Tuff Break
When an enamel jewel is set into metal, it can sometimes produce a thin, tinny sound—glass against metal—that subtly diminishes the sense of quality. Some artists attempt to solve this by adding sawdust or plastic behind the enamel, but Tuff Break offers a far superior solution.
Tuff Break not only eliminates unwanted sound, it enhances the integrity of the setting itself. As a jewelry artist, my goal is to create work that is not only visually beautiful, but structurally sound—jewels meant to last a lifetime, and beyond. I’ve been told my pieces belong in a museum; a hollow, metallic sound would undermine that experience.
Tuff Break cushions the back of the enamel—glass—protecting it from direct contact with the metal setting. This added support reduces stress, helps prevent cracking, and creates a more solid, refined feel. The result is a jewel that looks, feels, and sounds like a true heirloom.
