For several years I experimented with fusing metals together to eliminate the use of solder. Solder can change the pristine colors of the enamels, which are the most beautiful part of my work. I realized, by using the technique of granulation it is possible to fuse high karat metals together with the use of copper oxide. I then came up with the idea of building a wall around the metal surface to hold the enamels inside, which eliminated the need to set the cloisonné. At the same time, it opened up the opportunity to use both sides as a canvas, making every piece twice as special. In the end my best work came from suspending a fine silver disc in a ring of 22k gold, adding 24k gold cloison wires plus the findings, and fusing them all together. Now I have a jewel to enamel.
Stay tuned for the 3D work coming!
